Dynamite Roofing is a residential roofing contractor. It’s what we do. We’re on nearly 2500 roofs a year in the Salt Lake City, Provo corridor to evaluate, inspect, repair or replace residential and small commercial roofs. Here’s some advice we have for finding the right residential roofing contractor.

Residential Roofing Contractor Licensing and Insurance:

  • Licensing: This is a non-negotiable factor. Ensure the roofer holds a valid license from the Utah Department of Commerce. A license signifies they meet the state's qualifications for roofing work. Click on this link and search for the company name and make sure their license is active and not denied or expired.
  • Insurance: Verify the roofer carries liability and worker's compensation insurance. This protects you from financial responsibility in case of accidents or property damage during the project.

Residential Roofing Contractor Experience and Reputation:

  • Experience: Look for a roofer with experience working in the Salt Lake City area. Different areas around Salt Lake have different impacts from weather and experienced roofing contractors will know the best approach to your project
  • Reputation: Check online reviews and ask friends, family, or neighbors for recommendations. Look for positive feedback regarding quality workmanship, communication, and customer service.
  • Professional Associations: Membership in organizations like the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA) https://www.nrca.net/ can indicate a commitment to professional standards.

Getting Quotes and Contracts:

  • Multiple Quotes: It can be a pain to get multiple quotes but one of the best ways to find a good residential roofing contractor is to simply talk to more of them. If you get estimates from at least 3-5 qualified roofers you’ll have a better perspective on not only price but materials, project timelines and communication styles.
  • Detailed Estimates: Ensure the estimates clearly outline the scope of work, materials used (including brand and specifications), labor costs, project timeline, warranty details, and payment schedule. Don't be afraid to ask questions if anything is unclear.
  • Warranties: A reputable roofer offers a warranty on both materials and workmanship. Understand the duration and coverage details of the warranty provided.

Communication and Trustworthiness:

  • Communication: Choose a roofer who is responsive to your questions and concerns throughout the process. Clear communication is essential for a smooth project experience.
  • Trustworthiness: Pay attention to the roofer's professionalism during the initial consultation. Do they listen to your needs and offer solutions that align with your budget and priorities?
  • Red Flags: Beware of roofers who pressure you for a decision, offer suspiciously low quotes, or lack clear explanations about materials and warranties.

Choosing a Roofing Contractor:

  • How do I find a qualified roofer? A qualified roofer will be licensed in Utah and carries insurance for liability and worker’s compensation. Look for contractors licensed in Utah with good reviews and/or are referred by friends and family. Get multiple quotes and check references.
  • What questions should I ask potential roofers? You should ask any question to help make you feel comfortable with the roof replacement process. You can ask about the company's experience, company warranties, materials, financing options and how to work through the insurance process.

We understand your average homeowner doesn’t know the technical details of replacing a roof, the materials and process. It’s our job to explain it in a way that makes sense and makes you feel comfortable.

It is also important to understand project timelines and any expectations you have regarding scheduling. With work from home it’s important to know when to avoid work calls. With family schedules, it’s important to understand when roofing dumpsters and equipment may make it difficult to access your garage or other areas of your home.

Additional Considerations:

  • Are there financing options available? Some roofers offer financing to help manage the cost.
  • What about roof maintenance after replacement? Regular inspections and cleaning are crucial for maintaining your new roof's lifespan.

By understanding these common questions and concerns, homeowners can approach a residential roof replacement project with more confidence and make informed decisions that protect their home for years to come.
